I survived yesterday
She came in
Looking like she always does
Beautiful from head to toe
Her smile a beacon in my night
Watching her dancing
It was all I could do not to stare
Thinking she should be with me
But that’s not where we are at
Any longer
As knives twist in my heart
Seeing her move with them
The way she once did with me
And when our eyes meet
I can only hope
She couldn’t see the pain I was in
Hoping my face didn’t betray me
All night long
Thoughts played out in my head
If only I could talk to her
If only I could make her see
Maybe, just maybe
But no
That time has passed
We both agreed to move on
But I know I lied
I feel it when I see her
I dream about it at night
And during the day
When we get close
My tongue betrays me
Not letting the words
Escape my mouth
Maybe that’s for the best
Maybe she can finally be happy
Even if it’s not with me
I can’t say what tomorrow will bring
But I survived yesterday

I survived yesterday

What falling in love sounds like…

It’s the silence between you
When your eyes meet
No words need to be spoken
And being close is all you need
It’s the rustling of sheets and blankets
As you snuggle closer together,
Half asleep
On a lazy Sunday morning
Hiding from the sunlight
Peeking in through the curtains
It’s the pitter patter of rain
Falling softly outside your window
No TV, no radio
No sounds to distract you
Curled up
Enjoying the warmth of each other
It’s the sound of her heartbeat
The quiet of her breathing
When she’s lying next to you
And you both drift off to sleep
It’s the laughter you share
When you both find the same thing funny
Or the song you hum absent-mindedly
And she joins in without thinking
It’s not trumpets blaring
Fireworks exploding
Or even “your song”
It’s the quiet moments together
This is what falling in love sounds like

Did I miss the part when you said goodbye?

We don‟t talk like we used to.
Before, words flowed between us,
Laughter was something we shared.
Now I feel like an intrusion,
Like a bad dream,
Haunting your nights,
Or a memory best left forgotten.
Has the fire dimmed so that no spark remains?
When did you close the door to your heart?
Or has mine deafened me to your words?
You used to call me at night
To share your day with me,
Now my phone and I sit alone and quiet in the dark, Waiting for your voice
To bring it and me to life again.
Once upon a time,
You said „you couldn‟t stay away from me‟,
Now, it seems,
Nothing can make you come near.
Was my heart won too easily for you?
Or were you scared by the depths of my feelings?
Now I feel abandoned,
Discarded,
Like a used paper cup,
Did I miss the part when you said
Goodbye?
